Monterey Bay Sailing school offers
opportunity for aspiring sailors and seasoned skippers. Our
instructors will teach you the American Sailing Association
curriculum which is the definitive standard of safety and
seamanship worldwide. The supportive learning environment
will give you the confidence to skipper independently.
All courses are complete on the water
experience. Our driving passion is sailing oceans and we strive
to share that with mariners of all ages and experience levels.
Classes are custom tailored to suit your boat, your interests,
your experience, and your crew. If you are not sailing at

Reservation
Four hours of on the water instruction to introduce you to
the world of sailing. What
will I learn?
Reservation
General Description: Able to sail a boat of about 25 feet
in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in
familiar waters without supervision. A preparatory Standard
with no auxiliary power or navigation skills required. Two
day class taught the first weekend of every month. Satuday
10-5 and Sunday 9-5. What

Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing Certificate
General Description: Able to cruise safely in local and regional
waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat
of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea
conditions.Two day class taught the second weekend of every
month. Satuday 10-5 and Sunday 9-6. What
will I learn?

48 hours of instruction on the water. Includes Intro to Sailing,
Basic Keel Boat, and Basic Coastal Cruising materials. Prepares
you for ASA Keel Boat and Coastal Cruising exams if desired.

(Intermediate Coastal Cruising) Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat
Sailing and Basic Coastal Cruising Certification General Description:
An advanced cruising Standard for individuals with cruising
experience. The individual can act as skipper or crew of a
30 - 50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. The Standard
includes knowledge of boat systems and maintenance procedures.
What will I learn?
Reservation
42 hours of instruction on the water. Includes instruction
from Basic Keel Boat class through Bare Boat Chartering. Prepares
you for Basic Keel boat, Coastal Cruising, and Bareboat ASA
exams if desired.

Prerequisites: None General Description: Able to demonstrate
the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing
vessel in coastal or inland waters. There is no Sailing Skills
part to this Standard and practical application of this sailing
knowledge is found in the Advanced Coastal Cruising Standard.

will I learn?

Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising,
Bareboat Chartering and Coastal Navigation Certification General
Description: Able to safely act as skipper and crew of a sailing
vessel about 30 to 50 feet in length. This is a day and nighttime
Standard in coastal and inland water, in any weather.
What
will I learn?

48 hours of instruction on the water. Includes instruction
from Basic Keel Boat class through Advanced Coastal Cruising.
Prepares you for Basic Keel Boat, Coastal Cruising, Bareboat
Chartering, Coastal Navigation, and Advanced Coastal Cruising
exams if desired.

Prerequisites: None General Description: Able to demonstrate
the Celestial Navigation theory required to safely navigate
a sailboat on an offshore passage. The practical application
is conducted in the Offshore Passagemaking Standard.
